PS: Really need to get a notebook and take notes.
UPDATE
Sorry I didn’t get a real post up last night. I was extremely tired from a busy day at work and when I got home I had to make something to eat, which means I only really started relaxing at 11 or so. Anyway, enough excuses. Here are yesterday’s events.
As I mentioned previously, I am definitely hungrier now. Even when I eat similar sized portions, I get hungry faster and I’m fairly certain that my stomach has begun shrinking because smaller portions are filling me up as well. I had lunch with a pesco-vegetarian friend yesterday, she says that she eats every few hours or so. I could see that being somewhat difficult to accomplish at times. Nonetheless, I will attempt to eat smaller portions more often to keep myself from starving.
“Rice Mastah” commented on Day 2 and asked me about tofu. In all honesty, I don’t really like tofu. I know it is a good source of protein and blah blah blah, but I also find it extremely bland. Yes, I know it takes on the flavour of what you’re making; I don’t need a lesson on it. Regardless, I am still not a big fan of tofu but I will add it, on occasion, to spaghettis and stews since it can crumble it up.
I believe that I have a growing paranoia or distrust concerning my meals being prepared in restaurants (And it’s only Day 3!), I keep wondering if they’ve been prepared or contaminated with meat or animal products. I often now double check food labels and check with the server to find out what’s in my meal. I could certainly see how a mild distrust could escalate into full-out paranoia or extremism, which (to an extent) is what I see veganism as. There are even more extreme cases of veganism (Raw Fruit Vegan, etc). Then again, I see those people as fucken looney anyway.
Moving on; my cooking skills are coming in quite handysince without them I’m certain I’d starve.I’ve come to realise that unless you are quite wealthy, you are definitely are required to cook a fair amount. The only three “real” options in Moncton for vegetarian dining are Zen Gardens (my current workplace), Calactus (my previous workplace) and Cafe Maelström. I realise other restaurants have salads and other vegetarian options but as I’ve mentioned before, I find their selections quite lacking. Perhaps, I’m just needy and self-centered because I want an ENTIRE menu (or at least a large portion of it) dedicated to my food choices?
A final issue I wanted to approach is that due to my lifestyle, changed eating habits and limited monetary budget, I feel somewhat trapped and confined. I can’t eat or go just anywhere if I want to be social. Quite a few of my favourite eating places are no longer available due to their limited menus and saying “Oh, but...I can’t go there because I can’t eat there” really sucks. You end up being the “guy who makes eating out really difficult for everyone”. I’ve been pretty lucky that I have an extremely understanding girlfriend and group of friends, but still it kind of sucks.
Lolz. "Makes eating out really difficult". I'm so slamming that one in your faces muahaha.
